Jeff Beck

You can have your God, your Buddha, your Jesus Christ Superstar.

Give me two hours in a small, lightly packed, smoke filled club standing 30 feet away from a double-stack of Marshalls and Jeff Beck.

My brother-in-law John and I headed to Myrtle Beach mid afternoon Saturday, hung out at Ocean Annies for a bit and then grabbed a quick bit at the bar at House of Blues. With the dinner reciept we were able to by-pass the growing line and head into the club. It was lightly packed - not over crowded and we made our way down to the quickly filling up main floor. We were maybe 20-30 feet from the stage right in the center.

Promptly at 9 the lights dimmed and Jeff Beck appeared along with a drummer, bassist and keyboard player. Later in the show they were joined by a young woman who sang and did a good job of it (though I’d still love to see Rod Stewart on stage!)

They proceeded to play non-stop for two hours. Jeff tuned his guitar once and played the same guitar thoughout the entire show - pausing only a few times to fiddle with his amp or pedals. He played a good mix of old and new - each song smoothly flowing into the next. He came out for two encores - the first the full band came out and for the second only Jeff and the keyboardist came out and Jeff did a wonderful “Over The Rainbow” which was a fitting end for a great show!
