Over the weekend I finished up doing some much needed maintenance on the KLR.
- Changed oil and filter
- Replaced the doohickey
- Flushed and replaced my coolant
- Cleaned the oil screen
On my previous KLRs I had never taken the time to check the oil screen but many have reported it is often clogged - so I decided I’d check it and see for myself. I’m glad I did - it was at least 30-40% clogged with what appeared to be gasket sealant. My bike is a 2004 with only 10,000 miles and I was surprised it was that clogged. If I ever bought a new KLR I would certainly plan on doing that probably in the first 2-3,000 miles and then maybe check it again and 10,000.
