Where Have All The Good Times Gone?

What is up with Van Halen? For years there has been no word from the Van Halen brothers. Sammy and Michael are doing their thing and Dave is, well Dave.

Now it appears with their recent induction in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - things are finally happening - but not good things.

First - it appears Michael is out - Eddie’s 15 year old son Wolfie is in. Yeah. Right.

Today it looks like Dave is back in as well according to the news.

This is so screwed up in so many ways.

Why fire Michael? He’s the rock in Van Halen. We as devoted fans are supposed to believe a 15 year old can replace him? Pleaaase. Wolfie is going to pee his pants the first time something goes wrong on stage. Maybe Wolfie will come out playing a Kool-Aid bass or something, but I just don’t see it as a good thing.

Dave. Dave is a great frontman - don’t get me wrong. I’m a Dave Halen fan. But right now Van Halen is screwed because they have a HUGE catalog of songs that Dave can’t sing. There is no way that Dave is going to sing any of Sammy’s tunes. Not without a lung transplant. So if Van Halen goes on the road they are going to have to leave 1/2 of their catalog behind. Compare this clip and this one and tell me what you think. Really.
And who’s going to sing Michael’s parts? If you didn’t know - the high harmonies on Van Halen - that’s Michael. We won’t get into Eddie’s vocal talents.

Sammy -recent interviews with Sammy prove he’s the only one in this whole scenario who seems to have his head screwed on correctly. He’s going to keep churning out good rock regardless of what goes down in Van Halen and will someday be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his own contributions so I don’t think he cares one way or the other - but I get the feeling he doesn’t want Van Halen to become an embarassment which is what I think is going to happen if things continue.

I think Van Halen in all honesty should regroup at the R&R induction (with Michael) and do 2 songs: one with Dave, one with Sammy and then announce they are retiring “Van Halen” and go out on top rocking as hard as they can.
