I was excited to see the Apollo alpha released today - though I’m not a Flash/Flex person - I thought I might start tinkering around with this at home in the evenings… alas - checking out the Labs download page - there is nothing for Linux.

So much for cross platform
Apparently Linux will be supported after the final 1.0 version according to the FAQ.
Does Apollo support Linux?
Apollo 1.0 will not be available on Linux. We plan to release Linux support shortly after the 1.0. release.
While we had originally planned to support Linux in the 1.0 timeframe, we have had to wait on the core Flash Player’s support for Linux to be finalized.
Bummer.

I have a VM setup with Ubuntu and am slowly porting myself over to it. I was a bit disappointed there wasn’t a linux option as well..
I believe the original intention was to release for all three OS’s but I think development has taken longer than they’d hoped so have gone for numbers out of the gate. I don’t think it’s unreasonable and it’s good that they’re targetting Linux at all unlike many other products that dont.
Although full-blown linux from the start would have indeed been very desirable.
That was the first thing that stuck out at me when I went to the page as well.
Moreover, when combined with “We are currently targeting the second half of 2007 for the release of Apollo 1.0″, it suggests Apollo-for-Linux won’t be until 2008, which sucks mightily.
Don’t worry guys, if they do things like they did it with Flex2 we wont have to wait too long to compile our Apollo code either, and the result of the linux flashplayer debugger & all makes me think it’s worth being patient
