Ray Camden and Mark Drew (and quite possibly that Kinky Solutions guy!) must be early beta testers of this technology…
A device worn on the head could in squeeze the benefit of eight hours’ sleep into just two or three hours. Scientists in the US used a technique called transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to induce slow waves – indicative of the deepest phase of sleep and essential for learning ability and mood, in a group of sleeping volunteers.
Sweet! Sleeping and eating are IMO two of the most useless daily activities I endure. Now I just need my daily ’24 hour food pill’ and I’ll be set!
sleep i can do without.
but eating? nah. i love to eat (as my ever-increasing gut can attest to) :)
Oh sweet. I’ve gotta get one of those!
Any idea where to sign up for the beta?!
Until it comes through, I guess a little meditation or Tai Chi before going to bed is about as good as it gets . . .
Tai Chi? Can I pick up a bottle of that at the liquor store? :)
:->
I like sleeping, but I never get enough of it. This sounds like many of the ‘brainwave generator’ programs out there that produce audio files. The files are mainly whitenoise with signals embedded in them that ‘tune’ your brain to alpha, beta, theta, or delta waves.
I could do without the need to eat. Give me one of the 24 hour food pills and I’m good. :-)
F.E – if you read the article they do not use sounds – they use magnetic ‘signals’:
“A TMS device sends harmless magnetic signals through the scalp and skull and into the brain, where it activates electrical impulses.”
For some reason all I can really think about is the scene in Scanners where they guys head explodes. This just sounds dangerous :)
I would be down for that! I love falling asleep, and I love laying in bed in the morning, but all the stuff inbetween… not being productive :)
@Jim – yes, same general concept, just different technologies. Both are trying to alter the brainwave activity of the user.
