We’re Not Gonna Take It Anymore

CF Ain’t Dead

OK - so I’m reading all the comments on the recent “ColdFusion” is dead posts and trying to figure out what we can do as a community to help spread the word that ColdFusion is NOT dead.

One thing I noticed is the ColdFusion community is a bit ‘closed’. We all post all these great tutorials on our blogs - but we don’t do a very good job of letting the outside world know about what is going on with the ColdFusion community.

Have you heard about DZone?

  • DZone is a free link-sharing community for developers
  • anyone can submit new links to the incoming queue
  • members vote on upcoming links to determine what gets promoted
  • everyone can browse, search and comment on links

I just emailed them and suggested they add a “ColdFusion” tag. All the existing ColdFusion entries are posted under ‘other languages’…

I’d encourage all ColdFusion bloggers - when you blog about something - zip over there and submit a link back to your post - sure it takes a few minutes - but it helps spread the word outside the ColdFusion community!! And email them to add a ColdFusion tag while you are at it :)

I’m sure there are other sites like this - please leave a URL in the comments if you know of any and help spread the word: ColdFusion isn’t dead!

* and despite the picture above - I’m not a Twisted Sister fan!

I just want to +1 the DZone recommendation. I find it to be an excellent tech aggregator. Unlike Digg, the readers there are mostly open minded.

    I just found another one:

    http://ajaxian.com/

They actually DO have a ColdFusion section (even though they spelled it with a space)! So with all the new Ajaxy features in CF8 - post some stuff over there!!!

Yep, Ajaxian is a great site and I happen to be one of the newest Ajaxians. Considering that I’m well invested in CF, you can expect more content on there accordingly. What I need from you guys is content to post so feel free to email with good stuff at reybango at gmail

Crumb, I contacted Lowell Hedding of Dzone as well to see if I can help in getting him to add the new tag. I know him because of the jQuery project and while I can’t guarantee he’ll do it, I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Rey - thanks for the help! Go jQuery! :)

I’m of the opinion that the biggest defender, or rather, booster, of Cold Fusion should be Adobe. After all, it -is- their product. Yet, Adobe seems to be content to, imho, do little to nothing to so as much as mention Cold Fusion as a business solutions platform. Where’s the love, Adobe?

Sure, Adobe is working at improving CF, along with the greater family of products such as Flex and Flash. And sure, Adobe does market CF to it’s own, such as their AIR bus tour, but imho, it’s all preaching to the choir.

Where is Adobe’s advertising campaign aimed at the pointy haired boss types? Surely the folks at Adobe recognize that since their product isn’t free, they’ve got to appeal to the folks who actually -pay- for it, not just the developer crowd. I’m just not seeing it. Adobe treats CF like it’s an open-source item, as if it’s our job as developers to somehow float their balloon.

I think Adobe needs to step up to the plate, not us.

Alan - I agree - Adobe needs to do more - but I didn’t post this to beat that horse.

I think the CF community itself can step up and do more to promote and expose ColdFusion outside our community.

There are so many great ColdFusion articles I see daily on MXNA - if these were seen on sites like DZone and Ajaxian - that would be a lot of exposure for ColdFusion… at little expense to anyone.

    Ray Camden follows though!

And he points out another good Ajax resource (which take user submissions):

Credit goes to Rey for the write up though. Unless Rey is Ray. Rey could be the Mirror Universe version of Ray, or vice versa. ;)

Hmpth. For some reason this blog keeps rejecting my comments because my UA changes. Yet I never change my UA. I have to reload and post again.

    Rey. Ray. I can’t keep up! :)

OK - Rey (Bango) posted it on Ajaxian - and Ray (Camden) posted about it on his blog.

Ray - I’ve deactivated one of my comment spam plugins - that was probably the culprit - sorry for the rejections!

Actually, its Rey Bango. (”a” instead of “e”). ;)

@Ray (my evil twin): Thx man! :)

OK. All future posts will use: ‘R*y’

And you guys can figure out who is who… :)
