Ubuntu Gutsy Upgrade

Tonight I updated my Ubuntu install to the latest Gutsy beta (7.10). So far so good. This is the first upgrade I’ve done where it correctly set my widescreen monitor resolution so that was nice (no manually editing config files!).
I’ve also enabled the new flashy Compiz window effects but am not [...]

Look! Someone’s Bashing A Computer Language And It’s Not ColdFusion!

This is an interesting read: 7 reasons I switched back to PHP after 2 years on Rails. As are some of the follow up blog posts I stumbled across:

Immature developer attitudes revealed in flames regarding CDBaby
Thinking about Rails? Think Again (Slashdot - comments)

I find it interesting that he re-wrote the app in PHP - [...]

Getting Started With Selenium

Recently I’ve been messing around with trying out a few different web testing tools.

Canoo WebTest
OpenQA: Selenium

Canoo looked neat with it’s Ant syntax - but I could not find a user friendly way to create my tests. There was a Firefox plugin but it was unintuitive to use. I also found [...]

Should CFEclipse and Aptana Merge?

I was digging around the Aptana forums today and noticed a few posts where people were looking for ColdFusion support from within Aptana - either by Aptana adding in the language support themselves or possibly by merging with CFEclipse!
Mark Drew made a few comments on the forum about how you can easily run the two [...]

WordPress Rocks

Lately I ‘volunteered’ to take over our local PTA website. It was an attractive Flash site - but no tools were available to maintain it. Wanting to try something new - I checked out several of the major PHP CMS systems out there and finally settled on Joomla.
I got everything [...]

Compressing JS and CSS with Ant

Mike Henke sent me a great link to this article: Building Web Applications With Apache Ant.
It's a great article but one section - "Minify your JavaScript and CSS files" really caught my eye. I've been using more and more jQuery code and related plugins in my projects (as well as more CSS) and [...]

Where Do You Get Your ColdFusion Fix?

I was reading this post at Ben Forta's blog were he talks about the demise of CFDJ.
That story has been kicked around enough I won't go into it much - but I did enjoy reading CFDJ when it was in it's prime. I learned a lot from the magazine and still have a huge [...]

ColdFusion @ Fortune 100?

I was reading this post Why ColdFusion? where the author states "ColdFusion is in use at 75 of the Fortune 100 companies" but I don't think I've ever seen who on the list actually uses ColdFusion? Why? Is it a secret?
I work for Lockheed Martin (#57) and we do use ColdFusion almost exclusively [...]
