My CFEclipse Layout

Following Mike Henke’s post… Here is my CFEclipse screenshot.

90% of the time I run the editor window maximized. With the new ‘quick’ icons (on the left) I can easily open other views as needed - Navigator, Outline, etc. Ant, Tasks, etc all live to the bottom right. I’ve also stripped out the stuff I don’t use from the top menu as well to give me the maximum real estate.

Running: Eclipse 3.3, CFEclipse, Aptana, Subclipse and QuantumDB.

    I do the same when I don’t have a large enough or wide enough screen. But most times, I just keep the outline/method view on the right, and the navigator and such on the left, and still have plenty of room to code. And I’m not maximizing the window.

    Sometimes I think I might go 1/2 screen up and down to fit with firefox, but it’s easy enough for me to switch when I can see both open at the same time. If I do ever go that route, I’ll definitely be doing what you’ve done. (I do it when I use remote desktop in SQL quite often, in fact)

    I’m lucky to have dual monitors at work - both running 1024×768. Eclipse is on the left, Firefox on the right. Works out really well.

    What’s nice is you can ‘tear off’ a view from the main window and drag to to the other monitor so if I’m doing something critical I can still have the Outline or Framework view visible while keeping the editor window maximized.

    I’ve got dual monitors as well (looking to go to three soon) - the problem is I haven’t found a good replacement for Ultramon on Mac OSX so it’s a pain to move windows to other monitors.

    My primary monitor (the one on the macbook) is running at 1920×1200 and the 2nd monitor is at 1680×1050. Unfortunately, the Apple-provided drivers suck for Windows and I can’t get that good (the native) resolution on the 2nd monitor, so I hardly use it when in Windows either.

    The 1920×1200 is enough for me to go 1/2 screen on firefox and see almost all websites just fine (the scrollball on the mouse makes it easy to go left/right for times when content goes over). So I don’t have a problem there, because it’s almost like having 2 screens on one.

    I’m normally using the extra monitor for small things like ftp, rdc, and the like where I can have 4 things open without overlapping (or with minimal overlapping).

    It’s really a nice setup that’s made me tons more productive, but I can’t wait to chain another monitor on. Dunno what I’d do with /more/ than 3, but 3 would definitely be nice, especially if I can get it with resolution as good as I get on my primary screen.

    Yes I’ve got a widescreen monitor at home. I’m saving my pennies for another one! My desk probably isn’t big enough for three!!

    @Jim:

    What’s the memory usage bar that you’ve got running at the bottom of Eclipse? Is that a plug-in?

    Dan - it’s under Window > Preferences > Show Heap Status

    I have got dual monitors (1280 x 1024)at work and most of the time, I detach navigator view and/or search (if using)/console(for ant) on my second monitor. The second monitor has firefox on it so when I click on firefox on 2nd monitor, I do not see eclipse views but as soon as I click on Eclipse on 1st monitor, I get back my opened views on second monitor.

    1 q. on your screen shot, I see a firefox windows with title ‘cfeclipse_ububtu.jpg. Do you use ubuntu for your CF dev? and if so, how is your experience with it?

    The Ubuntu screen is Mike’s I think. The screenshot above is from work (on Windows). That said - I run Ubuntu at home and have no issues with CFEclipse on that platform, although I just upgraded to 7.10 and haven’t tried it out since then…
