Someone at MXNA needs to check our Ray’s great article on handling errors “The Complete Guide to Adding Error Handling to Your ColdFusion Application“.
It IS a bit embarrassing when the error is on the companies own site. I’m not sure what the relationship is since MXNA is still tied to an old Macromedia URL but this CONFIG.VARS.RECORDSPERPAGE error has been occurring for some time.
Why not fix it?? Or at least put in some more friendly error handling and messaging…
Yep, this has been happening on and off for as long as I can remember.

“MXNA actually does use a few types of error handling, and has a pretty sophisticated default error page, however the application can get into a state where even the error page can fail, which is what you ran into. Basically, it happens when the application starts receiving too many requests before it has been fully initialized. It’s definitely a bug, and I should find some time to fix it.”

I’ve come to the conclusion that weblogs.macromedia.com is rebooted every day around 4:30pm Pacific. It’s generally inaccessible around this time, but I see this error sometimes too. The cited message from Christian Cantrell seems to back up my conclusion, since MXNA must initialize after rebooting. Interesting! :)
