Tonight I should be on my way to cf.Objective for my first conference speaking gig. Unfortunately I won’t be attending.
Over the Easter weekend I was hit by a deer on my motorcycle. Thankfully I practice ATGATT (all the gear, all the time) and made it though the accident. I did suffer a broken clavicle (2 places) and a few mangled bones in my right hand. A full recovery is expected but right now I can barely feed myself, so air travel is a stretch.
I was a originally hoping the awesome Dan Wilson could fill-in and do my preso but tonight I had to finally face the reality of my situation and sent an email to Jim & Sean at cf.Objective and withdraw.
I’d like to thank Sean and Jim for inviting me to speak, and a huge thanks to Dan Wilson who offered to fill in for me….

Ouch.
That looks painful :(
Wishing you a quick and full recovery.
Jeezus, that looks freaking painful. Im guessing those are the pins holding the bones in your hand in the right place?
Deer so dangerous to motorcyclists, bloody unpredictable.
Take care of yourself and I wish you a speedy recovery
First. I’m glad to see you’re OK. Second. That’s a freaking awesome double break on the collar bone.
In my younger years I had a bit of a 3 year “what can I brake next” thing going on. I trashed my left collar bone playing football (soccer), busted my left wrist playing football, produced a sweet looking compound fracture on my right arm through skateboarding, mangled my left hand settling an argument :) not to mention all the broken fingers, toes and nose.
As much “fun” as all that was, I really don’t miss the inconvenience it causes so you’ve definitely got my sympathy here.
Out of interest, what sort of damage did the deer have?
Take it easy, and hopefully it’s a straightforward road to recovery for you.
Ouch! Best wishes on your recovery.
Jim, we miss you man. Recover, get well… there’s always next year!
@andy – I killed the deer… :)
Yikes! Glad that you survived. Out of curiosity, what was it in the “All the gear” that helped or made it possible to “make it through” the accident?
I’m planning on a post that goes over all the gear I had on (on how it came through)
